Frequently asked questions.

This page will try to deal with tough questions which you or your friends may have. We promise to be as honest and open as we can, but we also want to honour God. To this end our answers will always attempt to be true to the Bible’s teaching.

Does God exist?

The Bible does not even begin to make a case for the existence of God. It assumes that God exists right from its opening sentence. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1) yet there are many who believe that the evidence for the existence of God is all around us. The fact that we are here, living on a tiny planet in a vast universe, has often made people think about the origins and cicumstances of life. The delicate checks and balances that make life possible speak to our inner selves of something more than chance. The Bible puts it like this: “For since the creation of the world Gods invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made.” (Romans 1:20).

The created universe, though, cannot tell us much about God at all. It may speak of his power and might, if we are prepared to listen, but it will never tell us what he is really like. It will never tell us what makes him angry, or what pleases him. It will never tell us if he is a capricious or whimsical God, or whether he is a God who cares and is still involved with his creation. And it would be very difficult to have any sort of relationship with God if we only knew those things that could be gleaned by observing and studying the created order.

Fortunately, God has given us lots of proof, not only of his existence, but of what he is like. When Jesus came to earth some 2,000 years ago, he told his disciples, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” (John 14:9). Jesus claimed to be God. If you had been in Palestine at the time Jesus was around you could have walked right up to God and shook his hand. Thats an astounding thought. But Jesus actions bore out his claim to be God. Why not read one of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John) and check out his claims?

Finally, if Jesus really is God, then we should serve and worship him as God.
